Each mission offers multiple opportunities and approaches, expanding your freedom and putting creativity at the center. There’s a Supremo that unleashes a volley of missiles, another that knocks out electronics, and one that spits out clouds of poison gas, forcing your enemies to battle each other for you. Your options are broadened further by the addition of Supremos, which are jury-rigged weapons of mass destruction that you charge up by killing, rewarding you with more ways to devastate the opposition. You also have the choice of going loud, setting fires, and blowing everyone up, or silently creeping, stabbing, and disabling alarms and security cameras. It keeps you engaged beyond aiming and pulling the trigger. Each enemy type is weak against a specific flavor of ammunition – armor-piercing for dudes with helmets and soft-body rounds for fleshy foes, for example – and you need the right kit. By scouting out enemy bases and tagging enemies before an assault, you get information on each soldier in the compound. Your effectiveness in combat is tied to the equipment you use, and you really do have to think about what tools you’re using. Instead of being granted skill points, you’re offered the chance to purchase new weapons and gear as your power grows.
